Obituary

SMALL, Thomas "Tommy" Jackson – 62 of Aylesford NS, died peacefully at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on November 4, 2025, after having a good old battle with his liver. Born in Lebabon, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Arnold and Freda (Jackson) Small of Aylesford NS.  After moving to Nova Scotia, Tommy lived for the rest of his life in Aylesford.

In his early years, Tom played on many baseball and softball teams in Aylesford where he made friends of all ages in the community.  He was a Charter Member and President of the Aylesford Leo Club, an active Boy Scout, and a member of the West Kings District High School men's basketball team.

After high school, Tommy became best known as the owner of the Needs Franchise in Aylesford, where he flipped quarters with customers for coffee and socialized with those who came in.  Tommy was charismatic and found his calling in sales. He began his career with Larsen Packers/Maple Leaf foods in Berwick NS and was Salesman of the year in 2003.  Tommy worked in sales for most of his career and was enjoying semi-retirement in recent years.

He was a dedicated father, a trusted friend and always ready for mischief or adventure. Tommy loved to cook, (especially cookies), spent countless hours gardening and caring for his property with a treasured dog or favourite black cat supervising. He was very proud to live in Aylesford and could often be found caring for his elderly neighbours.

One of Tommy's greatest strengths was his ability to make deep connections, and this is reflected in the love that we have received from our community, family, and friends during this time.  We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the EHS paramedics, the Emergency Department staff at Valley Regional Hospital, for their support in the last weeks of Tommy's life.  Dr. Sean Magee has been a guiding and invaluable presence for the past two years.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Janet (Banks) Small; his daughter, Danielle Small and her mother, Denise Ward; sisters-in-law, Leslie Small; Mona (Mark) Pearl, Darlene (Troy) Eisnor; brother-in-law, Nelson Banks; uncle, Perry (Sheila) Jackson; many "special cousins", nieces and nephews and their families.

Along with his parents, Tommy was predeceased by his brother, William "Bill" Small; brothers-in-law, Dwight Banks and Eric Banks; as well as his mother-in-law, Virginia (Ginny) Comeau Banks.

Cremation has taken place; there will be no visitation.  A funeral service will be held at St Mary's Anglican Church, 20 Morden Road, Auburn, NS, at 11:00am on Saturday, November 22, 2025. Interment to follow at St. Mary`s Cemetery.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free, 1-855-825-3448.
