Obituary

STUART (Nee Berg), Tyra Kirstine – Age 77 of Lantz, passed away, Saturday, June 15, 2024, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born December 26, 1946, in Edmonton, AB she was the youngest daughter of the late George and Jeanetta May Berg (Nee DeBastien). Her older brothers Don (pre-deceased), Greg (pre-deceased), and Leon kept an eye out and protected their little sister fiercely. While she enjoyed high school, she yearned to discover the world. She was quickly wed to her first husband, Clive Head, an air force pilot, and spent the next number of years following her husband across Canada, to the UK, Germany, and finally back to Canada. Their relationship didn't last and eventually she found herself single once again. She was working in the secretarial pool at Petro-Canada when she met her future second husband and the defining love of her life, Robert (Bob) Stuart. Both active members of the Petroleum Ski Club in Calgary worked hard and partied hard too. Bob was an entrepreneur with a zest for the new and unexplored, so a few years later they were off on a new adventure in Hawaii. When that business proposition failed to come to fruition, they came back to Canada, all the way to Nova Scotia where they would spend the rest of their lives. Purchasing a house in the new bedroom community of Lantz, they turned their house into a home and welcomed their new son, Angus. Though there were trials and tribulations in business, theirs was a happy home filled with music and laughter. Shortly after her 50th birthday, sadly she lost the love of her life. Bob died in January 1997, and Tyra was never quite the same. She had been taking courses at Mount Saint Vincent University part time for a number of years and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology that same year. She continued to be active in her son's activities as well, serving as the Quartermaster for the Dartmouth and District (formerly Dartmouth Junior) Pipes and Drums and made many lifelong connections. Later, she returned to work at Hudson News in the Halifax Stanfield International Airport where she worked until her retirement in 2011. In later years, she sold the house she and Bob had purchased so long ago, and downsized to a smaller apartment she was able to tend more easily. She got along well with her neighbours who thought highly of her, and often helped with carrying her groceries and other small jobs. She was eventually diagnosed with breast cancer, and although going through several battles, it spread. She passed away peacefully at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre due to complications from cancer. She is survived by her son, Angus (Goose) Stuart (Melanie Sampson) and her brother, Leon Berg. The family wishes to thank her close friend Sue for her dedicated friendship and assistance in the last months and years of her life. As per Tyra's wishes there will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., Toll Free: 1-855-825-3448.
