Obituary

Valerie Dawn Patterson, 70, (Kentville) died tragically on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. Born in Digby, daughter of the late Edgar Outhouse and Verna (Elliott) Bates. She enjoyed long walks along the salt marsh trail with her beloved dog, Brodie and spending time with her family. Her greatest joy in life was raising her six children. A loving mother and homemaker, she was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially over the holidays. She spent most of her life on Long Island and in 2011 she moved to the Valley. She was forever grateful for the years spent enjoying daily excursions, breakfast and movies, and time spent with her beloved sister Laurel and husband Gary. Her patience, kindness and pleasure of the simple things in life were her greatest virtues. She was a second mother to many in her community and her love of children was never ending. She enjoyed sewing, baking and word search puzzles. She was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories and much laughter.

She was a member of the Centreville Baptist Church. She is survived by daughters Paula (Bruce Snell) Prime, Clementsport, NS, Roxanne (Gio Santoni) Prime , Belleville, Ontario, Tara (Mike) Payne, Fall River, NS, sons Lyall (Amy Coates) Patterson, Beaver Bank, NS, Justin (Katie Nickerson) Patterson Victoria, BC, Jared (Ashley) Patterson, Sylvan Lake, AB; grandchildren Lance, Tyson, Rachel, Maddox, Ella, Landon, Weston, Jaxen, Jayce and Emery and great grandchildren, Jayden and Olivia; Sisters Wanda Stark, Freeport, Laurel (Gary) Haines, Centreville, brothers Edward (Elaine) Outhouse, Tiverton and Harold (Letitia Thimot), Freeport, stepfather Malcolm Bates, Freeport and stepbrother Darin Bates, Calgary, Alberta and many nieces and nephews.
