GATES, Vance "Brian" – age 65 of New Albany, NS, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late William "Adelbert" and Evelyn (Bezanson) Gates. Brian was an owner/operator and long haul truck driver having worked in moving and storage. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, four wheeling and snowmobiling. Brian especially enjoyed fishing and being on the water with his good friend Butch Veinot. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Sitland (Scott Mahar), Moncton, NB; brothers, Wayne (Kathy) Gates, Oromocto, NB; Gary (Carolyn Ann) Gates, Nictaux; Tony (Debbie) Gates, New Albany; Larry (Shelly) Gates, Middleton; grandchildren, Emma, Joshua, Tyler; brother-in-law, Arnold Vidito, Kingston and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Bette Vidito. In keeping with Brian's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life and reception will be held 11:00AM – 1:00PM Saturday, January 7, 2017 in the Nictaux Fire Hall, 9349 Highway 10. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
