Obituary

Velma Evangeline Reede (nee Marshall), a beloved Mother, Grammie, Great Grammie, Great Great Grammie, Sister, Aunt, Friend and Wife, entered into eternal rest May 8, 2024, at Sherwood Park Manor, Brockville, Ontario in her 98tn year. Born October 5, 1926, to Otto and Elsie (Banks) Marshall in Brooklyn, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. Velma grew up in Middleton N.S. with her siblings, Minnie May (Ross), Edith (Harold), Freda (Bill) and Lila (Tom), forming bonds that lasted a lifetime. It was in Middleton where Velma met and married her husband of 69 years, Harry Hazen Reede. Together they raised their five children, Ruby (Gilbert), Bryce, (Sylvia), Valerie (Lesley), Charyl (Michael) and Cindy (Glenn). Velma and family moved from Nova Scotia to Brockville Ontario in 1958, on to Lethbridge Alberta in 1961 for a year, and then settled in Brockville for the next 14 years when they returned to Velma's beloved Nova Scotia. While in Brockville, Velma received her RNA Certification and worked at the Brockville General Hospital. Velma lived a quiet, full life. She enjoyed the beauty of trees, going for walks, feeding the birds and people watching. She was an avid embroiderer, a very talented quilter; many of her quilts won ribbons at the Lawrencetown Exhibition and could play a mean game of crib. Velma loved and was proud of her 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandsons. She enjoyed being an aunt to her many nieces and nephews and cherished her friendships. Velma was predeceased by her parents, her husband and sisters Freda and Lila. Velma will be soulfully missed by her family, friends and neighbours. You can see her now, sitting in her window or on the front step greeting you with a smile and a wave one last time. A graveside service will be held 2:00PM Sunday, July 7, 2024 in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton with Rev. Dr. Danny Smith officiating. A reception will follow in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street. Online condolences or memories you may wish to share with the family may be made by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
