SMITH, Verna Irene - age 84, of Lawrencetown, NS. December 14, 1930 - April 10, 2015. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton on April 10, 2015. Born in Greenwood Square, Verna spent her entire life in the Valley. She enjoyed travelling across Canada, which she and Albert did several times. Verna loved bowling and playing crib and darts at the Lawrencetown Legion. She was an avid gardener and a loving and devoted grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Albert; daughters, Debbie (Bruce) Gillis, Paradise; Karen (Charlie) Whitman, Lawrencetown; Kim Smith, Brickton and sons, Mark, Lawrencetown and Todd (Teresa), Langley, BC. Also, grandchildren Paul, Rob, Kendra, Glenn, Stacy, Shaun, Doug, Sarah, Stephanie, Kaitlyn, Levi, Quinten and Marjory as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Florence Griffin (Scotney) and father Clifford Griffin and daughter Susan in infancy. In keeping with Verna's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Mid-Valley Palliative Care, Middleton or charity of choice. A heartfelt thank you is extended to all the palliative care staff and medical floor nursing staff at Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion shown to our mother.
