MONTROSE, Vernon Thorpe - 85, of Wilmot, Annapolis Co., Nova Scotia, passed peacefully on Sunday, August 4th, 2024.
Born in Pugwash Junction on July 7, 1939. "Monty" as he was affectionately known, is the son of the late Myrtle (Vincent) and Logan Montrose. Predeceased by his wife, Brenda (Fraser); granddaughter, BriAnna Montrose; brother, Hance Montrose; and sister, Vivian Kingsbury.
Vernon is survived and loved by his daughters, Holly Schiffner (Mark) of Ontario; Angela Gregan (Rob) of Pugwash, NS; and son, Brad Montrose (Mary) of Wilmot, NS; grandchildren, Shannon Castle (Garry); Nathan Schiffner (Jill); Ashlee Lynch (Cam); Bobby Gregan (Kristen); Connor Gregan; Mathew Montrose (Taylor); Tyler Montrose (Chelsea); Haleigh (Dylan); many great grandchildren, Ela, Oliver, Ruby, Hunter, Abygail, Madalynn, Olivia, Cassidy, Cooper, Myla, Walker, Scarlett and Maverick. Vernon also leaves behind sister, Isabel Lee (Ted); brother-in-law, Rod Atkinson (Carol); and many nieces & nephews.
Vern joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1958. After he and Brenda were married, they moved the family and spent time in Cold Lake. AB, Portage, Man, Greenwood, NS, Moose Jaw, SK, Shearwater, NS, and Chatham, NB. Retiring in 1991 to the Annapolis Valley where they enjoyed living. Vernon loved to be in his garden often competing with his son Brad for the biggest pumpkin. He enjoyed golfing with his son & son-in-law, cribbage, darts, wood working and spending time with family. He was a practical joker at heart and loved a good joke. Many late nights telling stories over a glass of Rye. Always there to give a helping hand to anyone that needed it.
