Obituary

BRUCE, Veulah Ethel 82, of Nictaux, NS passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at home. Born in North Alton, Veulah was a daughter of the late Colin and Nola Ward. As a child she attended school in Margaretsville and Somerset. Veulah had an imaginative mind and always wrote poetry and stories. Music was a natural way of life in her very large family. Veulah married in 1946 and moved to a small farm in Bloomington, where they had 2 girls and 2 boys. She sewed all the childrens clothes and helped in their large vegetable gardens. Veulah later worked for 9 years in the gardens at Morses Farms. In 1970 they moved to Nictaux and opened a family business called Fun-Land canteen, also go-cart track and mini golf. She sang in the Nictaux Baptist Church Choir for 11 years. After 7 years they had to move to Berwick to be closer to Vernons work. They bought a large home and lived there for 18 years until Vernon retired and then moved back to a smaller home in Nictaux. Over the years they had the opportunity to travel to Florida and Nashville, Tennessee where their children sang. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Vernon; daughters, Linda Bruce, Dartmouth; Darlene MacLean (Len Sheehan), Dartmouth; sons, Richard, Nictaux; Bradford (Cheryl Goudey), Halifax; brothers, Harrison, Wolfville; James, Clarence; grandchildren, Kelly Martyn (Chris Preston), Halifax; Leslie McInnis, Dartmouth; Nikki (Jeremy)Timmons, Glace Bay; Bradford Jr. Bruce, Dartmouth; Christopher Bruce (Alicia Stevens), Middleton; Tonia Bruce, Melvern Square; great-grandchildren, Emily, Caitlin, Gracie and Ashton. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Hazel, Leora, Beatrice, Edna, Nita and Norma and brothers, Roland, Eldridge, Aubrey, Arthur and Leo. Visitation will be held 7-9PM Thursday, August 4, 2011 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. Funeral service will be held 2:00PM Friday, August 5, 2011 in Nictaux Baptist Church, Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. Interment will be in the Nictaux Cemetery. Donations in Veulahs memory may be made to the Nictaux Baptist Church, Canadian Diabetes Association or Heart & Stroke Foundation of NS.
