Obituary

HERRON, Walter, Matthew MB– age 77 of Clarence, NS, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, September 26, 2016.  Born in Montreal, Quebec, he was the son of the late Walter and Edna (Langlois) Herron. Walter was a boxer and hockey player in his younger years and generally enjoyed sports. He loved the outdoors, working with his hands and teaching carpentry. He first worked as a linesman for Bell Canada. He then joined the Montreal police force and was a member for 12 years. In 1975, Walter was awarded a Medal of Bravery (MB) by the, then, Governor General of Canada for his part in saving the lives of nine people from a burning house on Christmas Eve, 1973. He was also a registered private investigator and owned his own construction business. Walter is survived by his wife, Valerie Wilson-Herron; daughter, Cheryl - ON; sisters, Mary Gaudie  -Sault Ste. Marie, ON and Victoria Herron-Thomson - Picton, ON; step-sons, Douglas (Jacqui) Wilson - Parrsboro, NS, Geoffrey  (Jeffrey Stoneham-Wilson) Wilson - Halifax, NS and Gregory Wilson - Dartmouth, NS; several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased by daughter, Cindy, son, Michael Patrick and step-daughter, Deborah Wilson. In keeping with Walter's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of choice.  Special thanks to the VON nurses and homecare workers, Palliative Care, and staff at Fishermen's Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.  Also, to Michael Hodgson, Keith Pitcher and Louise Merlin for their unfailing support.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. (902) 825-3448.
