THOMPSON, Walter Harold ~ Age 80, of Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co., passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 12, 2023, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on March 2, 1943, in Middleton, he was a son of the late Harold C. and Leona V. (Israel) Thompson. Walter had been employed as an accountant at ACA Co-Operative Limited in New Minas, retiring due to medical reasons, later becoming a hobby farmer. He was a proud supporter of the Farmer's Museum in Lawrencetown and was the first treasurer of Kent Credit Union (now Valley Credit Union). Walter was a member of Lawrencetown United Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and the joy of his life was his family. Walter enjoyed reading, was an avid hunter and like his brother liked old cars. He loved Nova Scotia, Maritime and local history. Surviving are his wife of almost 60 years, the former Barbara J. Whitman; daughter, Alana Thompson (Robert "Bob" Balcom), Nictaux; sons, Corey (Angela) Thompson, Fredericton Junction, N.B.; Ian (Angela Lynn) Thompson, Beaver Bank; grandchildren, Megan, Caleb, Abigail "Abby", Alyssa and Amelia; great grandchildren, Autumn and Brier; sisters, Dale (Sam) Elsworth, Bridgewater; Wanda (the late Stanley) Langille, Truro; Rose (the late Daniel) Bailey, Lyon's Brook; brother, Audley (the late Pauline) Thompson, Lawrencetown; several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 18, in Lawrencetown United Baptist Church, 430 Main Street, Lawrencetown. Pastor Andrew Taylor officiating, with a reception to follow until 5 p.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown, at a later date. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to Lawrencetown United Baptist Church or to your favourite charity.
