Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful loving mother, Wanda Leona Mildred Whitman "Millie", age 89 in Heart of the Valley Care Centre Middleton NS on November 11, 2024. Born on May 7, 1935, in Middleton, she was the daughter of George DeBlois and Lila Parvetta "Betty" Hebb.

Early in her life, Millie worked at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton then became a homemaker to raise her family. She had a passion for cooking, knitting, playing guitar and boasting about her driving skills and shenanigans back in the day. She often spoke about how the dinner table was always full of friends and family that gathered for a meal. Millie volunteered with the Special Olympics bowling team and chaperoned at dances with her son Kevin who she adored beyond words. She loved animals and there was always room for one more if they needed a home. Her greatest accomplishment was her children who she would talk about with great pride and admiration.

Millie is survived by sons, George (Susan) Gallant, Dartmouth; Kenneth (Gayla) Gallant, Port George; Earl (Bonnie) Gallant, Three Fathom Harbour; Bruce (Brenda) Gallant, Aylesford; David Whitman, Spa Springs; Kevin Whitman, Port George; daughter, Judy Whitman (Eddie Smith), Mineville; grandchildren, John, Krista, Douglas, Brittany, Justine, Jacob, Jason, Chris; great grandchildren, Kole, Camden, Easton, Brody, Maxim, Roman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Special mention to her long-time childhood friend Dorris Bent of Phinney Cove who she always said was like a sister to her and loved her dearly. Besides her parents, Millie was predeceased by her husband, Harold Whitman; brothers, George Jr. and Howard Hebb.

Rest easy Mom/Nana, you will be forever missed and always remembered by all who loved you. Thank you for your sacrifices, we love you and you will remain in our hearts forever, until we meet again.

Thank you to all staff at Heart of the Valley Care Centre for providing exceptional care.
