TOOKER, Wanita Olivia ~ Age 94, of Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on March 16, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Aubrey and Hope (Stephens) Drew. Wanita came to Berwick in the early 1960's and worked at Spicers Nursing Home for seven years, Weavexx for one year and then Palmeters Country Home. Followed by Grand View Manor in 1970, where she was employed as House Mother, and House Mother she was, retiring after 22 years of service. With her companion, Eugene Surrette, they opened a restaurant called "Gene's Lunch", picked apples in the U.S.A, and picked and sold vegetables, fruit and fish of all kinds. Wanita was a great worker and took pride in her work. She enjoyed going to all the sporting events with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, whatever they were involved in, she was there. Oh and let us not forget the Bingo games and Frenchy's trips. Wanita will be dearly missed by her family and friends but has left us all beautiful memories. She always enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends at Fundy Villa. Surviving are sons, John (Faye) Tooker, Clementsvale; Bill (Donna) Tooker, Grand Falls Windsor, Newfoundland; Donna (Terry Wright) Connolly, Berwick; daughter, Lynnette (Gary Thomas) Surrette, Halifax; grandchildren, Chris (Jane), Scott (Crystal) Tooker, Blair (Melanie), Scott, Todd, Matthew Wright (Cailey Bent) and Shaylyn; great grandchildren, Emma, Brady, Abigael, Lydia, Samuel, Kai, Silas, Sydney, Nathan, Lane, Willow, Kaycee, Peyton, Mason, Harper and Chase; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by Eugene Surrette; granddaughter, Lisa Tooker Robar; granddaughter-in-law, Melanie Smith Tooker; brothers, Stewart and Maynard Drew. Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m., Monday evening in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Funeral service will take place at 3 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, in Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Evan Colford and Rev. Sarah Scott officiating, with interment at a later date in Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations to Berwick Baptist Church or any charity. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to Dr. Melissa Brodeur, Mr. Michael Mulherin and the team from Medical B for their care and compassion shown to their mom.
