Obituary

Pineo, Wendell Burnell ~ 86 of Kingston, NS passed away Sunday, April 6, 2025, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS.  Born in Berwick on February 28, 1939, he was a son of the late Carlos and Kathleen (Westhaver) Pineo.

Wendell was known for his involvement in the community. He was a retired member and former captain, with 48 years service in the Kingston District Fire Department. In his later years with the Department, you could hear his distinctive voice announcing "684 on the air" when the tone dropped for KDFD. He was a member of Kingston Baptist Church, having served as a deacon and teller. Wendell retired as Produce Manager with Wade Enterprises, where he worked his entire working career. He was a very social person always enjoying the company of others; whether chatting, teasing, or simply offering up a mint he would carry in his pocket. Wendell was an avid hockey fan who played high school hockey in his younger years, then later played with the Kingston Smokies. Wendell enjoyed woodworking (especially making Christmas decorations for family and friends), feeding the backyard birds and prior to her passing going on Sunday drives with the love of his life, Margaret.

Wendell is survived by his daughter, Heather (Jeff) Winters, Halifax; son, Mark (Kelly) Pineo, South Farmington; sisters, Elsie (Bob) McLeod, ON; Edie (Fred), Poehlke, BC; brothers, Kenneth (Winnie) Pineo, BC; Eric Pineo, ON; Ronald (Brenda) Pineo, Nictaux; Carl Pineo, Auburn; Michael Pineo (Carolyn), Aylesford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Wendell was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Margaret; brothers, Vincent, Sheldon and Garth.
