Obituary

William "Bill" A. R. Small died at home on February 3rd, 2025, with his wife by his side, after a short illness of lung cancer.

Bill was born July 7, 1958, in Hanover, New Hampshire where he lived for the first 10 years of his life. At that time his family moved back to Nova Scotia. They settled in Aylesford where Bill attended St. Mary's Elementary School and then went to West Kings High School.

At the completion of Grade 12, Bill moved out to Alberta and for the next 36 years he worked for various companies in the oil patch. During these years Bill formed a lot of close friendships that he cherished all his life.

In 2014 he retired and moved back to Nova Scotia. Bill and his wife built their home on the Bay of Fundy in Cottage Cove. This was without any doubt his happy place. Anyone who knew him knew how reluctant he was to leave home, even for short visits down in the valley. He loved walking along the shore with his dog, Ellie Mae.

Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Leslie (Shields); brother, Tom (Janet) Small; brother-in-law, Bruce (Joy) Shields; sisters-in-law, Judi (John) Randles; Audrey Shields; Debbie Shields; uncle, Perry (Sheila) Jackson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Arnold and Freda (Jackson) Small; parents-in-law, Lorne and Audrey Shields; brothers-in-law, Bill Shields; Ken MacDougall; nephew, Sean MacDougall.

As per Bill's wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
