Obituary

Furlotte, William Donald "Don" - Age 81, of Wilmot passed away, Tuesday January 14, 2025, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Dalhousie, NB, he was the only son of the late Joseph "Larry" and Stella (Savoie) Furlotte.  He is survived by his best friend and love of his life, wife, Bernice Kennedy-Furlotte; daughter, LeeAnn (Gerard Hunter) Furlotte; sisters, Linda (Ian) St. Claire and Cheryl-Ann Findlay; Anne Keddy (aka his Cabbage Patch daughter). Don had a long career with the Department of National Defence with 54 years of service completed in 2014. His service was in the Regular Force, Reserves and Public Service. His military career started in 1960 when he joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps as a Soldier. Upon completion of training, he was posted to Germany. While in Germany, his chosen career as a Mobile Driver Operator allowed him to travel all over Europe. Various postings and courses included: Germany, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Alert (three tours), CFBs: Halifax, Summerside, Downsview (Toronto), Greenwood, and CFS Raymore, ON. Upon retiring from the Regular Force in 1984, Don joined the Active Reserves which again involved duties at various military locations. These varied transport duties resulted in Don being honoured in October 2012 with an award for 50 years of Accident-Free Driving in both the Military and public service. He is the only person in the entire Canadian Forces to receive such an award. Don then worked for the Public Service (National Defence) until his health forced him into retirement. Cremation has taken place. There will be no services at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St., toll free: 1-855-825-3448. Many thanks to the Medical Staff at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and ICU at Yarmouth Regional Hospital and the team at Careforce for their exceptional care. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. The online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
