PARKS, William Griffith "Bill", "Kilowatt" - age 86, Kingston, Kings Co., passed away peacefully, on March 18, 2015, at Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Halifax, he was eldest son of the late Cyril L. and Greta D. (Walfield) Parks. Bill began his lifelong work with the power company, in Noel. Then on to Avon River Power, Nova Scotia Light & Power and NSPC. He retired as a leading linesman, after 43 dedicated years. Bill and Joan set down their roots in Kingston in 1949. He became an involved member of Kingston United Church, and life member of Kingston District Fire Dept., where he became Deputy Chief and Trainer, notably of the " Fog Squad". Bill was a committed member of the Masonic Lodge. He joined Markland Lodge No. 99, AF&AM, Kingston in 1962 and served for 53 years. Bill was Master in 1967 and served as Grand Sword Bearer, DDGM for Kings District, and as Grand Representative to Tasmania for the GLNS AF&AM. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Then, as a Philae Shriner, Bill restored many "Honda 50's" and sure drilled the boys on those "Figure 8's", for Parade Days. He still took time for Family and leisure: male choir, camping, Trout Lake, 45's, square dancing, flea markets, seniors events and playing the spoons and washboard. Bill lived a full rich life and could often be heard saying "WHAT'S THE PLAN" or "LET'S HAVE A GAME OF TALK". Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Lona Joan (Laffin) Parks, Grand View Manor, Berwick; son, Donald (Nicola) Parks, Brighton, Ont.; daughter, Karen (Michel) Seguin, Lawrencetown, HRM; grandchildren, Sherri, Steven (Meaghan), Nathalie, Mathieu, Kyle and Caitlin; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and India; brothers, Robert "Bob" (Judy) Parks, Cambridge; John "Jack" (Joan) Parks, Noel Road; sister, Myrtle (Rawleigh) White, Noel; several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Masonic Tribute and Celebration of Life will take place at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 9, in the Kingston United Church. Rev. Michael Mugford officiating, with a reception to follow at the Kingston District Fire Hall. Burial in the North Kingston Cemetery, at a later date. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to the Kingston United Church.
