Obituary

OLDFORD, William Henry "Bill" - Kingston, NS. It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of a much loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Surrounded by his family, God took Dad on Monday, April 28th, 2014, at home, in his 81st year after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Elliston, NL, he was the eldest of 14 children of the late Maynard and Myrtle (Way) Oldford. Bill was a dedicated husband and father who spent tireless hours volunteering in his children's activities and his church. Dad went to Memorial University of Newfoundland and started his career as a teacher. He changed professions and had a long career in the airline industry that began with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Bill left the Air Force to join Eastern Provincial Airlines/Canadian Airlines where he retired after 27 years. Bill will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Gertrude (Strong); son, Brian (Debbie); daughters, Joanne Hall (Brian) and Roxane Butler (Carl); grandchildren, Matthew (Kelly), Brandon, Mitchell, and Claire; great-grandson, Cayden; brothers and sisters to whom he was extremely close, Bob (Louise), Burt (Lynn), Winsor (Jean), Albert (Judy), Tom (Linda), Doug (Judy), Marvin (Mona), Gary, Elsie Ryder (Allan), Dorothy Hynes (Robert), Leona Dyke (Carl), Theresa Adams (Byron), and Beverly Norris (Eric); and many nieces and nephews. He will be also missed by his beloved cat Molly who was a great source of comfort. There will be no visitation. Bill's life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 5, at Kingston United Church, with Rev. Michael Mugford officiating. Burial in the North Kingston Cemetery with a reception to follow in the church hall. Family flowers only, donations in Dad's memory can be made to Kingston United Church or the Victorian Order of Nurses. The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to Dr. Burgess, Janet Wilton, Anna Goski and all the Victorian Order of Nurses and home care workers who were amazing to Dad during the last few months. Also, special thanks go to all the family and friends that provided endless support. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448.
