MARSHALL, William Milford-86 of Greenwood Kingston Village passed away peacefully, Friday, March 11, 2011 in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Greenwood Village he was the only son of the late Stuart and Ena (Pierce) Marshall. He was born to a family that had 4 girls and he was the only boy to a mother and father who were older. In his early years he had a passion for oxen and enjoyed in his later years watching oxen pulls. Milford worked with his father on the family farm. As he grew older, he worked with the surveyors on the 101 highway and later was employed with the Department of Highways for over 20 years. He also dug graves in the Tremont Cemetery, was a longtime member of the Conservative Party and developed Pine View Subdivision on his land. He was on the Kingston Village School Board and a member of the Greenwood Village Commission. He worked with his horses in his early years for Mersey. He met many men across the province and often met up with them in his travels. He was a member of the Western Nova Scotia Draft Horse Association, he pulled horses around the province as well as plowing with them in matches. He and his horse team were one of the first to represent Canada in 1969 in the first International Horse Pull in Cumberland, Maine. He loved to travel and play 45s and often attended 3or 4 card parties a week. Milford was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, the former Nellie Balser, Bridgetown; daughters, Wendy Noble, Wilmot; Mary Lou (Richard) Parker, Tremont and Elaine Garnett-Marshall, Dempsey Corner; granddaughters, Melanie (Mark) Collins, Angela Garnett (Billy Joe), Ashley (Nick) Wilkie and Courtney Garnett (Jason); great grandsons, Coen and Cole; step grandsons, Duane Parker (Shelley), Jamie (Nadine) Parker; step great grandsons, Dylan and Ethan and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Olive Magee, Daisy Spinney, Marion Bowlby and Donna Morse. Visitation will be held 7-9PM, Saturday, March 12, 2011 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448 where the funeral service will be held 2:00PM Sunday, March 13, 2011 with Rev. Leon Langille and Rev. David Phillips officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Private family interment will be in North Kingston Cemetery. By request, family flowers only.
