December 21, 1920 – October 15, 2021
POCHEREVA, William – 100, of Berwick, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Montreal, he was a son of the late Thomas and Marie (Pasiecznyk) Pochereva. William joined the RCAF and trained as a pilot in St. Eugene, ON and Nova Scotia and then went on to England as a Pathfinder flying Mosquitoes. After the war, he flew for Spartan Air Service. During the summers, William worked doing aerial mapping in Northern Canada and spent the rest of the year studying medicine at McGill. William was passionate about his work as a general surgeon working at Montreal General Hospital, Lachine General Hospital, and as chief of surgery at Lakeshore General Hospital. William worked hard and played hard. He enjoyed spending time at beaches on the ocean and loved camping with his family. He was an avid sailor out of the BDYC as well. By his grandchildren, he will always be remembered for his fabulous omelettes. Surviving are his cousin, Rose Leber (nee Kotov), Montreal; children, Susan, Thomas, and Richard; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Pearl Rawding; dear friend and companion, Love Rawding; sister, Julie Pochereva. Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate the life of William took place at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023, in Black Rock Baptist Church, 1248 Russia Road, Black Rock. Rev. John R. Hannem officiated, interment followed in Black Rock Cemetery (beside the church). Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street toll free 1-855-825-3448.
